The Route
Angeles Crest via the High Desert
Angeles Crest Highway (SR-2) is closed indefinitely — Newcomb's Ranch to Big Pines. Follow the route below.
Route 1
I-210 East
Leave Los Angeles via the 210. Head east through Pasadena and the foothill corridor. The San Gabriel range opens to the north. This is the approach.
Route 2
I-15 North
North toward Cajon Pass. Merge onto I-15 North. The grade climbs through Cajon Pass — the natural break in the San Bernardino Mountains at 4,260 feet. The desert opens ahead.
Route 3
SR-138 West — Pearblossom Highway
Exit onto SR-138 West toward Wrightwood and Big Pines. The road runs along the northern face of the range. Flat, fast, and wide — the Antelope Valley on one side, the mountain wall on the other.
Route 4
SR-2 / Big Pines Highway South
At Mountain Top Junction, take SR-2 south. The road immediately begins to climb. Pines replace desert. Elevation rises to 6,900 feet. This is Angeles Crest from the east — open, intact, and clear.
Destination
